Santa Clarita's Murals, Art Pieces Featured In KHTS Map Thu, 08/15/2013 - 3:30pm

Art pieces, such as sculptures and murals are scattered throughout the Santa Clarita Valley, many placed by the city of Santa Clarita.

“The city has put together a robust public arts program, and we currently have 10 or more public art projects under various stages of completion,” said John Dow, chairman of the city of Santa Clarita Arts Commission. “You can see many of them throughout the community.”

KHTS AM 1220 recently put together a map of all of the murals and sculptures in the Santa Clarita Valley.

The map includes 18 locations with pictures, addresses and information about each piece.

“A number of art pieces that have been city commissioned and have been created by nationally and internationally known artists,” Dow said. “This helps expand the brand of the city of Santa Clarita beyond the four borders.”

This interactive map helps residents of the Santa Clarita Valley and tourists locate local art that may or may not be recognized by the city of Santa Clarita.

“People from within our four borders have an opportunity to experience local artist’s work,” Dow said. “Art helps promote tourism from the outside in and creates awareness and attraction for the Santa Clarita Valley.”

Each page gives information about the art piece, the location of the art piece and pictures of the art piece.

“Art helps local economy and creates a sense of community,” Dow said. “People of all walks of life can share the experience and connect over arts.”
