Local Boy and Girl Scouts of the Santa Clarita Valley held the Bill Hart District's 3rd Annual Scout Expo on Sunday at the Saugus Speedway.
“It’s a free public event and we would like people to get exposed to the scouting organizations,” said Tracey Moss, district activities chair of the Boy Scouts of America
Scouts of all ages from the Santa Clarita Valley helped to put on the event. Parents and their children could get a taste of what scouting is all about by attending this event.
“We have just over 20 Boy Scout units participating and 9 Girl Scout units participating,” Moss said. “We have about 5 vendors participating in this event and it has gotten bigger every year.”
This is the first year that the Girl Scouts are joining the Boy Scouts in this event, she said.
“We’ve had about 1,000 people between scouts and everyone who has wanted to come,” Moss said.
People could come and meet local vendors as well as learn some new skills such as how to use a compass, how to throw a tomahawk, and first aid.
“We’re really trying to show the community what the scouting organization is about, the adventure, the learning, the community involvement and leadership skills,” she said. “That’s what Scout Expo is all about, to share with the public what we do.”
