The Santa Clarita City Council approved construction contracts Tuesday for a parking structure in Old Town Newhall.
The structure is part of three projects planned for the property at the southeast corner of Lyons Avenue and Main Street. They are:
– a two-story, 17,688-square-foot Laemmle Theatre with 2,293 square feet of retail space;
– a mixed-use development with 20,240 square feet of retail space and 46 multifamily residential units; and
– a 55-foot-tall parking structure with approximately 400 spaces.
The parking structure is planned to have one underground level and five above-ground levels with approximately 400 parking spaces. It would be roughly the same height as the Old Town Newhall Library.
The parking structure will offer free parking to the general public upon completion. It is subject to a development review and an architectural design review by city staff.
The project is part of the “Enhancing Economic Development” theme in Santa Clarita 2020, the city of Santa Clarita’s five-year strategic plan.
City Council members awarded a $348,000 construction contract to Walker Parking Consultants Inc. and a $188,104 contract for the supplemental environmental site investigation to JHA Environmental Inc. The council also increased an existing contract with MNS Engineers Inc. by $125,000 for design, environmental and project support services.
The total cost of $791,104 comes out of the city’s facilities fund.
