A pedestrian was fatally struck by a Metrolink train in Pacoima that was heading to Newhall Monday morning, officials said.
“We responded to the 13000 block of west Van Nuys Boulevard and pronounced one person dead at the scene,” said Margaret Stewart, spokesperson with the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The report came in at 7:07 a.m. Monday, Stewart said.
The pedestrian was struck in a non-pedestrian area, said Metrolink spokesperson Scott Johnson.
The train involved in the incident is Antelope Valley Line 201, which was en route to Lancaster and was expected to make stops in Newhall, Santa Clarita and Via Princessa in the Santa Clarita Valley, according to the Metrolink website and Johnson.
“The incident affected a number of trains both north and southbound,” Johnson said. “Southbound passengers from high desert stopped at Newhall station. By 9 a.m. passengers either found alternate transportation or boarded Metrolink-provided buses.
The incident train was released around 10 a.m. minutes ago by county Coroner officials, Johnson said.
“This morning’s incident should not affect this afternoon’s schedule for the evening rush,” Johnson said.
