Firefighters Respond To Vault Fire In Castaic, Residents Left Without Power -- July 20, 2015

Los Angeles County Fire Department officials responded to a report of an underground vault fire at the intersection of Ridge Route Road and Castaic Road in Castaic.

The fire was reported at 8:19 p.m. and there are no active flames, said Supervising Fire Dispatcher Michael Pittman with the LACoFD.

“We have one engine standing by and we’re just waiting for Edison to arrive,” Pittman said.

Multiple  residents in the Castaic area are reporting a loss of power.

UPDATE: 8:48 p.m.

Southern California Edison officials are reporting about 1747 customers are left without power from the underground vault fire, according to the website.  There is no estimation of when power will be restored.

UPDATE 9:45 p.m.

SoCal Edison officials have arrived on scene and are currently re-evaluating the situation.

UPDATE: Tuesday, July 21 10:30 a.m.

Power has been restored power to all but four Castaic residents, according to SoCal Edison officials. Power is expected to be restored at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
