Every year, hundreds of Santa Clarita residents come together to raise funds for the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center at the Celebrity Waiter Dinner.
This year, the event raised $80,000, said Linda Leiblang, associate executive director of the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center.
“We’re just really appreciative (of the community),” Leiblang said. “We can’t raise these funds without community support.”
The event was held Feb. 9 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel with the theme of “Cities Around the World.”
“It helps fund many of our operations here at the SCV Senior Center,” she said. “This helps fund lots of programs including adult day care, support services, in-home support, transportation. It really helps support all operations at the SCV Senior Center.”
Guests dressed up as aliens, Kentucky Derby attendees, garden party ladies, residents of Gotham City and Oz.
Tables were decorated to represent the city that the group represented. Some cities included Las Vegas, New Orleans, London and San Francisco.
Celebrity waiters included: Santa Clarita Mayor Marsha McLean; councilmembers TimBen Boydston and Dante Acosta; Linda Davies, executive director of the Santa Clarita Valley Domestic Violence Center; Julie Olsen, a volunteer and Saugus Union bond measure oversight committee member, and many others. The waiters collected “tips,” “sold” silverware and took orders to try and earn the most money for the SCV Senior Center.
The winning waiter, Michel Delcros, raised $5,500.
